Jeden Tag erhalten wir Spam-E-Mails von Fremden. Wer sind diese Leute, die versuchen, uns zu täuschen? In SAKAWA zeigt uns der belgisch-ghanaische Regisseur Ben Asamoah drei Jugendliche aus Ghana, die sich mit Hilfe schwarzer Magie dem Internet-Betrug zuwenden. Was im Westen als Betrug angesehen wird, wird von den Jungen, die Sakawa praktizieren, als Ausbeutung der verfügbaren Ressourcen angesehen. Diese Ressourcen kommen in Form von Elektronikschrott zu ihnen.

Ben Asamoah (*1985 in Agona Swedru, Ghana). His mother Dinah migrated with him to the Netherlands when he was 3. After two years of asylum seeking, they eventually gained citizenship in Belgium, where Ben went to school. At the Royal Institute for Theatre, Cinema and Sound (RITSC), Ben made a short documentary called ‘Black’, about the Western meaning of the colour black and ‘The Rice Farmers’ about the daily life of rice farmers in Ghana. ‘Sakawa’ is Ben’s first feature documentary.
